Very interested in hearing/ reading film & TV folks' perspectives concerning utilizing Social Networks in marketing/ promo/ Identity. Anything to share? Ideally, we'd all benefit from the new approach to an online marketing push, with minimal budget, online. Be great to hear other's take-
Cheers, M.

We think everyone would benefit from using social networks for their marketing, so we are going to roll that feature out to our members very soon! Watch for the annoucement in the coming month!!
Cool!
Check out Jon Reiss' new book, available November 16 via his website. Book is entitled Think Outside the Box Office: The Ultimate Guide to Film Distribution and Marketing for the Digital Era, and includes case studies and info on using social networks as well as other marketing tools. I have an advance copy and it is great.

You can buy the book on his site

Hi M,

There are lots of indie filmmakers doing exciting things in this area - one part of the concept is that you build your own personal audience through twitter, fb, your blog, and so on, so that when you have a project ready for release you automatically have thousands of people who are only 1 degree separated from you. On average people have 52 online "friends" who they pass info onto, a proportion of whom will on spread to their contacts, until you have a large audience through word of mouth. The key thing to understand is that this is an active relationship - not a one-way broadcast - so you need to be providing something of real value to these people or it won't work.

I'll be posting an article about this on my blog soon, you might want to check it out to see some case studies of what various indie filmmakers have been up to from a business model persective.

All the best,
Luci
