A LITTLE HONESTY PLEASE!

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share some info with everyone since I've run into the same thing here now multiple times.

PLEASE, for your OWN sake, be HONEST in your posts here about your projects.

I get that we're all trying to make our way in this crazy industry, but exaggerating to the point of lying just wastes your time, other people's time, and RUINS your credibility for the future.

Don't post an ad claiming you're in pre-production on 4 projects and in development on 12 others when in actuality, you have 4 projects you WANT to do, and 12 other ideas in your head, but right now don't have two nickels to rub together and don't know how you're going to pay your rent. That's just lying.

OR that you're a "Multiple award winning writer/director/whatever" when you're not even listed on IMDB, and there's no information whatsoever about you anywhere on the web.

I've got relatives who've been dead for over 20 years, who had NOTHING to do with the film industry, and even information on THEM can be found on the web!

Seriously folks, the lying has got to stop. I've run into this now almost a dozen times here.

People claiming one thing, but then the truth comes out and it's something totally different.

Again, it seriously ruins your credibility with anyone out there who can actually help you when you exaggerate to the point of lying.

This site will become a joke if this continues to happen, and real, good people who can help won't want to come here if they keep running into lies and misrepresentation.

I'm not trying to poke shots at people here, but rather, educate some who seem to need it.

I've been fortunate and have worked on everything from $200 million dollar blockbusters, to working for free or a back end on shows that were little more than student projects.

I'm happy to help ANYONE, as long as they are up front and honest. But when your ad says one thing, and then you later admit something else, it makes me, (and others) wonder how honest you really are. No one wants to work with someone who's credibility is in question.

Just be honest, and people WILL help you. I will. Others will too. But you gotta be HONEST from the start.

Agreed.

I have yet to post much in the way of looking for help with projects. Mostly due to the fact that I see other post that make me question how someone can have that much going on in there career and not have the support of everyone on board at those stages. Then as you said, when I finally reach out to the community, will I be looked over due to not even being at "That level" or ignored completely because of they few who ruin the purpose of this site in an attempt of, "It'll be worth the deceit when they see what I can REALLY do".

It also causes me to question reaching out to help others, who like me, just need some support so they can tell the tales in their head. I look forward to helping, and in turn getting help with projects, but I want to know that it is real and not more spec then work.
