- Film Projects: MONTANA, a made-for-TV movie filmed in 1989 (Director:William A. Graham; Writer (WGA):Larry McMurtry (written by); Release Date:19 February 1990 (USA); Genre:Western) I was an extra and only did the movie to see the process of making a film. It was a fascinating experience working with Mike Madsen, Gena Rowlands and Richard Crenna (what a great person he was). The most astonishing thing is that I was actually in the movie, several times! The most meaningful thing was when I ate dinner with the cast, Richard was seated only three people away from me. When he took his tray to the garbage, I folllowed. I shook his hand and told him how much I enjoyed him over the years, from The Real McCoys onward. He took my hand in both of his and sincerely said, "thank you, I appreciate that." That made my day and I will never forget his willingness to just be real.

- My dream is to see my screenplay, Birdwoman of the Snake, in film. It is the story of Sacagawea, an American Icon and people, young and old, need to know her.
WRITING INSPIRATION: From Michelangelo:
"I saw the angel in the granite and carved until I set him free." When writing a historical drama, I know the story is there in all the massive and contradictive words of history (the granite), but, I must pursue by reading, thinking, feeling and meditating until I finally touch the character's Soul. Then, and only then, I write (carve) to set him free.

The inauguration of a New World...

In any event, it sounds like you're on the verge of something exciting. I believe the real story of the Lewis & Clark expedition (and Sacagawea's part in it) would make for a very interesting film. We get so little from the Native American point of view. Of course, the issue in Hollywood is getting that elusive 'green light' - but with Ewan McGregor interested and Will Smith in the wings, it might have a good chance.
Starting late is not ever an issue. There is nothing less important than the score at half-time. Keep up the hard work and having faith in the outcome and I'm sure you will find the effort worth it.

I recommend you join a writers group in your area. You may have to try a few groups to find the right groove for you. Many writers approach their scripts and the inherent problems in the story line with other like minded writers. Take care and good luck on your project.
